Durham Haus Working Dogs of ArkansasWhen You Say Dog - Say Durham! The Official Website of Durham Haus Working Dogs of Arkansas since 1996Your Own Family Drug Dog
For years I've trained dogs for law enforcement throughout Arkansas. Many
of my dogs are scattered throughout the United States.
It seems today, the more dogs, the more drugs.
One drug in particular: "Meth".
I watched the A&E program one night. The program aired the problems of
meth in Franklin County in Missouri.
It was unbelievable the number of young people that were hooked on the drug before the
parents knew what was going on in their sweet, innocent "my child would never do that"
home.
If there was a way to let a parent know that their child may be actually using drugs,
it would be priceless to get a head start on a problem like this.
Meth is so easy to use while in your home. One would never suspect it,
because they don't smell it. A drug that can be used in so many different
ways hiding the scent isn't a problem.
I began to wonder why is this problem growing? The drug is easy and fairly cheap to
produce I admit. I guess it's easy to find on the street, because of the
plentifulness of it.
Law Enforcement Departments are seeing more and more of this problem. To
have Meth, like an anvil on top of the other drug problems enforcement has to cope
with wasn't needed.
After pondering the A&E program in my mind the following morning, I couldn't help but
think back to 1991 when I had the contract with the Little Rock School system to rid
the schools of a drug problem. It was amazing the number of lockers that
my dog indicated that there was or had been drugs in this locker.
I can remember the trial run that Durham Haus Working Dogs did for the Superintendent.
Several packages had been put in various lockers.
The dog found those packages plus indicated on as many lockers where substance had been
earlier that day. It was Friday!
As the school year progressed, the number of indications by the dogs became less and less
until there wasn't any more scratching or indication of drugs any more!
We count on law enforcement to be responsible to control our drug problem.
Years of experience working with law enforcement help me to come up with the answer.
Each day our best friend walks around the house. He sometimes knows more of
what is going on around the place than you do. To top it off, he has 24
million smell senses (olfactory senses) compared to our 24 thousand. He
misses nothing out of place, just watch him. His nose is his third eye that
can be used for immeasurable things.
Your dog can be the answer to a lot of your drug questions about your own child and home,
Law enforcement uses dogs, why can't you? Yes, your dog or your next dog can let you
know that there are drugs in your home.
The intimidation factor involved is invaluable. Just as it was for the Little
Rock Schools.
The imagination of the dogs capability to tell on one of the family members for having an
alien scent in their possession.
Yes, I have trained dogs for families who thought there may be a problem in their home.
A few just believed in preventative maintenance.
What ever my previous customers used their dog for, it has helped make their everyday life
less stressful.
Using your own dog keeps it in your home. Your own dog allows you to handle
your problem without involving the law should you find a substance in your home.
To answer a question for the number of desperate families that can use a proven dog
