Tracking Program

There's not another exercise more enduring to your dog than tracking. Tracking is in a class of its own. This is why the tracking is in a category by itself. Such as the tracking in the three levels of Schutzhund. Then the advanced levels of tracking for those competitors that compete in advanced levels of tracking in AKC and Schutzhund competition.

Tracking shows the dog's endurance. When a dog is working a track, every muscle, eyes, and olfactory senses are being worked. Tracking can be as exhausting to a dog as bite work in the Schutzhund work which is also exhausting.

Whenever you see a good tracking dog, We guarantee you'll see a good obedience dog also. There's generally a rapport between a tracking dog and his K-9 handler. Not very many people look at the advantage of owning a dog that can track. Imagine a dog having 35,000,000 (thirty-five million) smell senses to our 25,000 (twenty-five thousand). As a human, we're virtually ignorant with our noses compared to the dogs. The capabilities of a dog to separate each cheese scent in a cheese shop, to be able follow with his nose one drop of boric acid in a hundred gallon vat of water from top to bottom is amazing.

We've always enjoyed the tracking. It allows the isolated time together with the dog.

Not just in the competition world is tracking used. Tracking is used in a variety of helpful ways to the many of us who take advantage of this gift that our dogs have.

All our dogs have the same number of smell senses. The way the dog is taught how to use them by the trainer generally shows up in the dog's ability to properly exploit his gift.

More Retriever owners that had problems with obedience found that tracking improved their obedience with their hunting dogs. The isolated time proved to be the missing link to help build their dog's endurance.

Regardless of your breed of dog, tracking can help both of you in many ways.

Durham Haus Working Dogs has an excellent tracking program. Inquiries are welcome.
